This is a pretty cool car- not exactly my cup of tea, but I like it.

Love it, until the head warps. Then you can ecotec swap it, and it’d be great again!

Nice car, but I can’t help but wonder why they didn’t shell out an extra $50 for matching black & gold plates.

Nah, these weren’t subject to that issue. These were pretty decent cars by the standards of the day (caveat being that the rest of the car was still a Vega).

I knew a guy in high school whose dad owned a shop and gave Junior a Vega with a 327.

The Vega was a catastrophe. Rust in impossible-to-repair places, engine overheating problems, etc. This particular car doesn’t even interest me that much, other than that it’s from the era of my automotive awakening. I’d rather have a v8/4sp Monza.

Good question. He’s got it for sale, so may have swapped tags for something generic.

Oof, a HS kid could get into a hell of a lot of trouble with that.

Wasn’t the V8 Monza the one that basically required engine removal to get at a couple of the spark plugs?

I got my license in ‘84, and I don’t recall anyone having a Vega - I think most of them had rusted to bits by then, even.

That wouldn’t surprise me. Roadkill had a Monza with a 305/4sp and they put a loud exhaust on it and it would smoke both legs all the way down the block.

There was a lady up the street with a Chevette who I’d talked into selling to me when she was finished with it. She called me once to say she wasn’t finished yet, and I haven’t heard from her since.
